The Sri Lankan Premier League, a first season of premier T20 cricket competition from Sri Lanka Cricket, is all set to start on 11th August at Premadasa Cricket Stadium, Colombo. The SLPL has replaced Sri Lankan Inter Provincial T20 tournament, which was being held for years in Sri Lanka. There are 24 matches scheduled in SLPL and all the matches will be held on 2 venues only: Pallekele International cricket stadium in Kandy and R. Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo. Seven cricket teams will participate in Sri Lankan Premier League Cricket Tournament. TilakaRatne Dilshan leading Basnahira Bears is one of these 7 teams competing for the SLPL title.

Basnahira Bears is a Colombo based franchise cricket team of Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL) which represents Western Province in the tournament. Green and Blue are the t-shirt colors of Basnahira Bears team. This franchise has been acquired by Indian Cricket Dundee Limited at $4.33 million in 2012 for seven years. After 7 years, a new agreement may be negotiated. The opening match of SLPL 2012 will be played between Dilshan leading Basnahira Bears and Sangakkara leading Kandurata Kites.

The official team squad of Basnahira Bears has been revealed recently. The team squad contains 24 players: 16 local signings and 8 overseas signings. As a coach of the team, Duleep Mendis has been signed. Tilakaratne Dilshan is a captain of the team.
