The exciting cricket war of Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) is about to begin. In total, there are seven competing teams among them, one is ‘The Kandurata Kites’. The team will represent the Central Province. Kumar Sangakkara has been crowned with the title of the captain of this team. The name of the team is inspired from a Sinhalese word "Kandurata" which means "Hill country", because most of the central regions are covered by hills. The home ground for this team is the Asgiriya Stadium situated in Kandy. The team is owned by Number One Sports Consulting Private Limited. The team was purchased for a whopping amount of $4.98 million which is the second highest bidding amount after Wayamba team that has been purchased for an amount of $5.02 million.

The Kandurata Kites Team consists of some really amazing talented players. The team will have eight international players and sixteen Sri Lankan players. One of the major plus point for the Kandurata Kites Team over other teams is the inclusion of the cricket legend ‘Sanath Jayasuriya’ in the team. He is one of the six players who have been bought at the maximum price of $35,000. The 43-year-old Jayasuriya has an international cricket career of over two decades and this experience will definitely bring flying colors for the Kandurata Kites Team. With talented players like Johan Botha, Tharanga Paranavitana, Adam Voges, Malinda Warnapura, etc. along with the top class captaincy of Kumar Sangakkara, the Kandurata Kites Team will be a tough competitor for other six teams.
