Uva Unicorns : Team Squad & Players

Not even a month has left for the Sri Lankan Premier League to start. Total Seven teams will participate in the tournament. Each team represents a province. These teams include Kandurata from Central Province, Basnahira from Western Province, Nagenahira from Eastern Province, Uthura from Northern Province, Ruhuna from Southern Province, Uva from Uva Province and Wayamba from North Western Province. The Uva or Uva Unicorns team made its debut in the Inter-Provincial First Class Tournament in its 2003-2004 season and it featured only once since then. At that time Chaminda Vaas was the captain of the Uva Unicorns team. The Uva Unicorns team returned in 2011 for the Inter-Provincial Limited Over Tournament 2010-11 where it could not perform well. In the SLPL, Success Sports Private Limited has purchased the team for 4.6 million dollars. The company will remain as the owner of the team for 7 years. After that a new contract may be negotiated.

The schedule of the Sri Lankan Premier League is already out. This year the team will be led by Chris Gayle. 16 local and 8 foreign players have been selected in the team. These foreign players include 2 Australian, 4 Pakistani, 1 West Indian and 1 player from New Zealand.

The team is composed of total 7 all-rounders including James Franklin, Chinthaka Jayasinghe, Saliya Saman, Andrew McDonald, Seekkuge Prasanna, Ashan Priyanjan, Sachithra Senanayake and Chris Gayle - the captain. Abdur Rehman, Dinesh Daminda, Dilhara Fernando and Umar Gul are the bowlers.
